Accessible Travel
We want your journey with us to be as pleasant and relaxed as possible – no matter what assistance you require. That is why Flamurtari Travel offers comprehensive and tailored services for passengers with reduced mobility, sensory perceptions, or intellectual impairments.
Book Flight & Request Assistance in Advance
Please inform us at least 48 hours before departure about the assistance you need. It is best to do this directly during your booking or afterwards via our service center so that we can make all necessary arrangements at the airport and on board for you.
Depending on the type of restriction, there may be legal requirements regarding seat selection (for example, seats at emergency exits are excluded for safety reasons). On many aisle seats, seats with foldable armrests are available for easier boarding and deboarding.
Procedures at the Airport and on Board
At the Airport
Please arrive at our check-in counter at least 120 minutes before departure – this also applies if you have already used the online check-in. Personal wheelchairs with the "Delivery-at-Aircraft" label can usually be used up to the gate before being stored in the cargo hold. Please note that step-free boarding via passenger bridges cannot be guaranteed at all destination airports.
On Board
Our crews will gladly assist you with stowing your hand luggage, with orientation, and, if required, with a special on-board wheelchair on the way to the aircraft toilet. For safety reasons, your own accompanying person is mandatory in some cases if:
-
the safety instructions of the crew cannot be understood independently
-
assistance is required to leave the aircraft in an emergency
-
constant assistance with eating or personal hygiene is required
Guidelines for Wheelchairs, Mobility Aids, and Medical Regulations
-
Seat Allocation on the Aircraft: Persons with reduced mobility (PRM) are preferentially placed in rows 2 to 5 to ensure a short and safe distance.
-
Maximum Capacities: For safety reasons, up to 10 passengers with special needs can be carried per flight, with a maximum of 5 passengers in wheelchairs.
-
Medical Devices & Oxygen: The carriage of personal stretchers and liquid O₂ oxygen cylinders is not permitted on board. The use of personal portable oxygen concentrators (POC) is permitted with sufficiently charged spare batteries, but requires a medical form (MEDIF) completed by a doctor.
-
Medical Fitness to Fly: All PRM passengers must carry a current medical certificate confirming their fitness to travel by air.
Medical Travel Authorization (MEDIF Form)
A passenger strictly requires an official medical flight clearance (MEDIF form) if:
-
an acute illness is present or a serious accident was recently suffered
-
medical care or special equipment is required during the flight
-
surgery was performed recently
-
an additional seat must be claimed for medical reasons
-
the traveling infant is less than 7 days old
-
a plaster cast is worn (special rules apply depending on the age of the cast)
Corresponding requests for medical assistance must be submitted to us no later than 3 working days before the scheduled departure.
Special Support for Other Impairments
Passengers with Visual or Hearing Impairments
Simply notify us of your needs well in advance. A medical certificate is not required for this. We offer you personal assistance at the airport, individual safety briefings on board, and direct information in the event of flight schedule changes.
Traveling with Intellectual Impairments
Please check carefully before traveling whether an accompanying person is advisable or necessary. Stressful situations such as security checks or orientation at unfamiliar airports may require familiar support.
Hidden Disabilities Sunflower (Invisible Restrictions)
Wearing the Sunflower lanyard or icon discreetly alerts our teams to non-visible impairments. We meet you with special understanding and consideration. Please note that the icon does not establish a legal right to special services, but helps us to better respond to your needs.
Medical Transportation Exclusions
Excluded from flight transport are passengers:
-
who can only be transported lying down on a stretcher
-
with highly infectious diseases (e.g., acute tuberculosis, infectious hepatitis, COVID-19)
-
with a pregnancy from the scheduled 34th week onwards (flights are only permitted until the 33rd week for single pregnancies)
-
after a very recent heart attack or major surgical procedures
-
with uncontrollable psychological disorders, unless there is a stable medication setting and permanent accompaniment
Should you have any questions or uncertainties regarding your fitness to fly, the team at Flamurtari Travel is always available to advise you.
